EU 168/2013 Type Approval
Within the framework of Regulation (EU) No 168/2013, the regulation on Type Approval for two or three-wheeled motor vehicles and quadricycles falls under Article 4 and Annex I, categorizing them as “L Category Vehicles”. These categories encompass vehicles designed for use on public roads, featuring various design stages and encompassing all components. Specifically, vehicles such as L3e-AxT type trial motorcycles and those falling under the L7e-B category are evaluated under this regulation.
However, the regulation does not cover the following vehicles:
a) Vehicles designed for use by persons with physical disabilities b) Vehicles designed for racing purposes c) Vehicles with a maximum speed not exceeding 6 km/h d) Vehicles designed for pedestrian control e) Vehicles designed for public service entities such as defense, security, firefighting, and emergency medical services f) Vehicles designed for use off public roads g) Vehicles subject to MARTOY regulations h) Vehicles without at least one seating position i) Bicycles that cannot reach a speed of 25 km/h, equipped with an auxiliary electric motor and pedal assistance j) Self-balancing vehicles k) Vehicles with a driver or passenger R-point height; L4e, L3e, and L1e ≤ 540 mm, L7e, L6e, L5e, and L2e ≤ 400 mm, and featuring at least one seating position.
